Carole McKeon has extensive experience in the fitness community and has been leading group classes for more than two decades. She has been practicing yoga since 1994 and helped introduce yoga classes into many North Shore health and fitness programs over the past fifteen years. She was originally inspired by workshops with Rodney Yee, Baron Baptiste and Beryl Birch, the author of Power Yoga and Beyond Power Yoga. She has based both her personal practice and style of teaching on these instructors.
Carole graduated with a B.S. degree in Health Education and Business from Penn State University in 1988. She worked on the East Coast for many years in Corporate Fitness, managing fitness and wellness programs for both Xerox Corporation and GE Capital. She and her husband Scott moved to Chicago in 1993 and Carole began teaching a variety of group exercise classes at several of the city's top health clubs. In 1995 Carole was invited to become a Reebok Master Trainer and helped launch Reebok Fitness Programs both in Chicago and across the country. Her passion for fitness has allowed her so many great opportunities to teach others about leading a healthy lifestyle.
Shortly after the birth of their first child, Carole switched gears and devoted herself to studying an in-depth asana practice. She was originally trained in Astanga and continues to enjoy a more vigorous, athletic-style of yoga. "I like vinyasa flow yoga, as it allows you to create beautiful choreography in your practice by linking breath with movement. By flowing from one pose to the next, there is no stopping and starting again. The continuous movement is so energizing, so grounding, so moving. My goal is to have you leave class feeling like you can accomplish anything in your day. It's a great privilege to lead a class through an asana practice. I am humbled by it every time I teach, and I am so happy to be a part of the Sanctuary family."
Carole is a Yoga Ambassador for Lululemon Athletica at Northbrook Court, an athletic sportswear company. She and her husband live in Lake Forest and have four very active children and a very spirited dog which they rescued from a local shelter in May 2010. Join Carole for "Lotsa Vinyasa" at Sanctuary starting this January 2011.
