Janet Nagel

The true meaning of the word "yoga" is to "yoke" or unite.  Yoga unites all opposites-mind and body, movement and stillness, strength and softness, sun and moon-in order to bring balance to the world. The inherent beauty of yoga is that we can begin our practice at any point in our lives with grace and wisdom.  To observe a young child in tree pose or an elderly woman in lotus pose is to see inspiration embodied.  A yoga practice will continue to serve us and amaze us until our very last breath.

Janet has been practicing yoga for more years than she can remember, having begun her journey to find balance between her joy of physical movement and her need for spiritual growth.  As she became more devoted to her practice, she learned the beauty of yoga's simple wisdom:  The mind, body and spirit are always united.  Searching for a way to deepen her practice, and a desire to share the many benefits of yoga with others, she completed her teacher training under the profound and humble guidance of Daren Friesen, founder of Moksha Yoga Chicago.

Janet has a diverse background forged from an ever curious mind and a love of new experiences.  During her ten years residing in Bolivia, she was an elementary school teacher, owner of a knitting company/women's cooperative and a practicing yogini.  Janet returned to the United States, and began her profession as a bilingual school psychologist.  She continues to consult as a school psychologist, working with children from pre-school through high school.  She and her husband also share in the continuous joys and tribulations of raising three teenaged kids.

Janet considers the opportunity to teach a rare and humbling gift.  Whether in the classroom or on the mat, Janet's kind and gentle manner is well-suited to teaching children and adults at any age level.  She believes that anyone can practice yoga, given love, commitment, a dash of balance, and a sense of humor.
