Ashtanga Primary Series

In this class, open to all levels, you will be led through the Primary Series of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga.  This traditional system of yoga, as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, synchronizes breath with movement in a specific sequence of postures.  Throughout the practice, an internal heat is produced through the use of the powerful ujjayi breath, as it is synchronized with movement, and through the engagement of internal bandhas, or energy locks.  This heat detoxifies the body by burning away impurities.  Along with the sound of the ujjayi breath, the use of dristhi, or gaze, purifies and stabilizes the mind.  With regular practice, the body becomes purified and realigned, and the mind becomes calm, leading to a deeper awareness of self.
